MERTC is honoured to be held under the Patronage of H.E. Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Energy Kingdom of Bahrain
Global Technology Forum (GTF) together with the World Refining Association (WRA) are excited to announce the launch of their first combined show: MERTC (Middle East Refining Technology Conference) taking place on the 22-24 January 2017 in Manama, Bahrain.
The inaugural MERTC will be the premier meeting place for downstream technology and innovation.
MERTC will unite GTF’s 21 years and WRA’s 20 years of experience in a new flagship event for the region. WRA’s strategic content , stakeholder support, and innovative formats will meet GTF’s advisory board scored papers and technical content to become the number one refining and petrochemical technology event for the Middle East.
Facing a new reality
As the low oil price becomes the new norm, the Middle East’s refiners and producers face a new reality. The loss of feedstock competitiveness coupled with the pressing need to comply with more stringent international standards has meant that the region’s focus is now on improving yields and becoming more sustainable to protect margins. Refiners and producers must continue their efforts in research and innovation in new technologies.
MERTC will connect senior downstream professionals with leading technology and service providers across a variety of event formats conducive to knowledge sharing and doing business. Exclusive seminars, high-level market keynotes, regional project updates, as well as the latest advances in process technology will be included.
The call for papers will open on July 24th and the submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the advisors during our first live meeting on the 29th August in Manama. In the meantime please submit your interest/intent to submit an abstract here.
If you are interested in getting involved we would be delighted to hear from you!
To submit an abstract in our call for papers which is open to refiners, EPCs, catalyst companies, technology licensors, additive providers, software vendors and general equipment suppliers and contractors, please contact Kay Mitchell on firstname.lastname@example.org
We look forward to announcing more details including key themes and our expert Advisory Board soon.

WORLD CAFÉ ROUNDTABLES
World Café Roundtables are small structured groups of self-selected people where they discuss a topic around tables, with individuals switching tables periodically and getting introduced to the previous discussion at their new table by a table host. We’ll be creating a café ambience in order to facilitate conversation.
This is an ideal format to gain insight into how your industry is tackling the biggest problems. Hosted by a series of experts from consultants to senior industry experts, have access to their knowledge and advice for free!
ONSITE NETWORKING MANAGERS
Designed to give you an exclusive event experience, our Networking Managers can help you with anything at any time – from pre-arranging meetings to ad hoc introductions or even printing your boarding pass.
We’re here to help!
DEDICATED SPEED NETWORKING SESSIONS
Speed networking ensures you don’t miss out on that vital introduction. You’ll be at a table with 6 of your peers for 3 minutes. When the bell rings pick up your new business cards and move to the next table for more introductions. A great icebreaker, that sets up further discussion later on at the show.
Remember to bring lots of business cards!
THE BIG DEBATE
The Big Debate is designed to shine a spotlight on a critical issue in the industry that is polarising opinion. With an Oxford-Style format, after an introduction of the topic from the moderator, each panellist will present a ten-minute opening statement either proposing or opposing the motion. This will be followed by an open Q&A session from the audience and inter-panel challenges. To conclude, each panellist will deliver a closing argument followed by an audience vote.
Our mission is to help connect the world’s leading technology providers with senior oil refinery and petrochemical engineering professionals, through a series of market-leading events that engage, inspire and inform out customers on the latest advances in technology and the dynamics of the global oil industry.
